We finally sourced a second CPU, and we hope to have it installed by next Wednesday. 2001.08.12 MAIL PROBLEMS We're experiencing problems getting email to route correctly to hotmail accounts. If you signed up for any of our personal services (MyFilmCan) etc, and have not received your email notification of your password, please drop us a note. We will send your password from another server. 2001.07.27 OUTAGE A problem with a Bell NEXXIA router left us in the dark last night. Thanks to the crew at ISTOP.COM for developping a work around, we're back up and running. 2001.03.14 MyFilmCan Messaging! Today we introduced MyFilmCan messaging, a service where you can exchange notes/comments with other MyFilmCan users. Fully integrated between desktop and PDA, you can write your notes, while on the go, and upload them with your next HotSync. All part of the MyFilmCan Service! 2001.03.13 FilmCan's Reviews in the palm of your hand. Full access to FilmCan reviews is now available to our WAP clients. Now you can get the 'full skinny' on the pro's and con's of the latest releases. All without leaving the restaurant/bar/office! 2001.03.12 Rate-A-Flic goes Wireless! That's right, not only can you see how other users rated the movies, now you can cast your vote right from your cellphone using FilmCan's WAP enabled Rate-A-Flic! 2001.02.23 UPDATE update - Contrary to the last statement in our previous "What's New Update", mother was not doing fine. Two weeks (to the day) after the birth, Theresa was re-admitted for abdominal surgery due to an emergent condition. As Andrew (husband who had taken over the data management), was at her side, we were once more scrambling to get our update completed. We had the bulk of our weekly update completed on Saturday, but we're still missing some data (eg Galaxy Theatre, and many indipendant theatres). We are taking steps to de-risk this process for the future. 2001.02.10 UPDATE update - For the first time in over 4 years we have, unfortunately, missed parts of this weeks regular update. Our chief data integrity person went and had her baby three weeks early! We were in the process of setting up an alternate system but it wasn't quite in place before she was rushed off to hospital Friday morning. We hope to have everything back in order in a day or two. Mother and baby are fine. 2001.01.15 NEW FEATURE We're pleased to introduce MyFilmCan, the service where you can choose which theatres you want to include in your FilmCan pages. Check out Jack's Quest for your chance to WIN! 2000.07.30 OUTAGE We experienced another server outage on Sunday (around 2:00 pm). We are now investigating changing our server to a more stable one, as we no longer feel secure with the current box. We'll keep you posted. 2000.07.22 OUTAGE Our ISP rebooted the server we host on at 10PM Friday night and the SQL server didn't restart. Most of the site was down until 9:30 Saturday morning when we noticed things were amiss, and called them up to fix it. Shiva has just submitted some new reviews for everyone to see. 2000.02.15 UPDATE It's been a heck of a day folks. But *many* hours later we're back up and running. No official report yet on the root cause, but hopefully we're "Good to go!". As of 15:15 EST everything should be back to normal. We'll be announcing this weeks contest winners later this evening. 2000.02.15 OUTAGE Our ISP perfomed an emergency upgrade last night, and neglected to install the necessary libraries that we require to keep our site running. We apologise for the inconvenience, and ask you to keep in mind that we're currently running this from an offsite backup over a T1 connection. We'll keep you posted as we get these matters resolved. 2000.02.14 After Yo-Yoing the server up and down more often than Richard Simmons in an exercise video, we appear to be up and running again. Sorry for the outage. 2000.02.14 It was quite a shock when I awoke this morning, to discover that our WebServer box had entered a time warp. As I write this it currently believes that the date is: Wed Jan 27 04:21:42 EST 1932 Furthermore the DB is completely offline. We're using a redundant backup at this moment, and will restore everything once the ISP brings the box back to the year 2000. Happy Valentine's day everyone. 2000.02.12 We've now added some more indepth movie information to our standard movie pages. By clicking on the [view] link, you will pop-up a window that lists the GENRE, ACTORS, DIRECTOR, PRODUCER, and the CAPSULE REVIEW (when available). We've also added a button, which is displayed whenever a capsule review is available. To see this in action, take a look at the Tigger Movie page. 2000.02.12 Addition of the What's New Status page 2000.02.11 SYSTEM OUTAGE:Our SQL server went off to it's own party and left us behind for about 2 hours. The outage was detected at 7:30 pm EST and the server was finally restarted at approximately 10:15 pm EST. Contrary to popular belief, this was NOT a Denial Of Service attack, although the press coverage would probably help. 2000.02.07 Official Launch of the new National Site.
